At Paignton Zoo, we're fortunate to be home to a bachelor group of four Western lowland gorillas. They may be the smallest of the gorilla subspecies, but this does not make them any less impressive! Western lowland gorillas are Critically Endangered, mainly as a result of habitat degradation and poaching.

Conservation education programmes and ecotourism are being developed to encourage protection of gorillas within reserves in the wild. There is a European Endangered Species breeding Programme (EEP) for this species of gorilla.

How do I adopt a gorilla?

First choose the adoption package you wish to purchase from the options below and then make your animal selection.

Adoptions apply to the species rather than individual animals. This is because some of our animals may move to other zoos as part of breeding programmes. If your adopted species moves, we will advise you and you will be given the opportunity to transfer your adoption to another species.
