Paignton Zoo Tropical Trails Re-opening in time for Easter

REPTILES RETURN TO PAIGNTON ZOO’S TROPICAL HOUSE AHEAD OF EASTER REOPENING

Families finalising plans for Easter escapes to the Southwest can now add a slice of the tropics to their holiday itinerary, as Paignton Zoo announces the timely reopening of its reptile house just in time for the spring break. The popular Tropical Trails exhibit has undergone extensive repairs caused by storm damage at the start of the year, resulting in the temporary closure.

Staff at the South Devon attraction, which draws crowds to the English Riviera year-round, have been busy working to rehouse their reptilian residents ahead of the anticipated Easter rush – a welcome sight for regular visitors who have missed the tropical house during its closure.

Additionally, the zoo has confirmed that sloths Mo and Ria will be back in their specially designed enclosure adjacent to Tropical Trails in time for the Easter holidays, giving families an extra reason to visit during the break.

Tom Wilkinson, Team Leader at Paignton Zoo, commented:

“Despite the challenges posed by recent extreme weather events, various teams have worked tirelessly to restore this beloved exhibit, along with its fascinating species, just in time for the Easter holidays. Providing memorable, all-weather experiences for families while continuing our vital conservation work is what the zoo is here for, so we’re thrilled to be able to welcome the public back inside.”

An increase in severe weather has taken a toll on the zoo’s infrastructure in recent years, with several exhibits requiring repairs after weather damage. However, it appears the 100-year-old institution is able to adapt to these new challenges, as Tropical Trails joins other recently restored areas, such as the Giraffe House, Crocodile Swamp, and Arid Lands.

Parents seeking to entertain little ones during the notoriously unpredictable Easter break will appreciate that the zoo now has an additional indoor space where families can escape April showers while still feeling they’re making the most of their holiday.

Tropical Trails is scheduled to reopen to the public on Saturday 5th April, in time for families to visit during the Easter holiday period. Visitors should note that some reptile and amphibian enclosures may remain temporarily empty as health checks are being completed before these animals can return to their homes, ensuring the welfare of all animals remains the zoo’s top priority.

For families planning their Devon itineraries around the vagaries of the British springtime weather, Paignton Zoo offers a reliable all-weather option with its mix of indoor and outdoor attractions. For further information, and to book tickets for your Easter visit, please see www.paigntonzoo.org.uk
