Our popular pygmy goats, males Mario, Bowser and Luigi, live in The Ranch area at the zoo!

The original ancestors of this breed came from Africa and are now fully domesticated. Our goats are fed hay, grass and pellet.

Interesting facts!

  • These little mammals are well known for their curious and friendly nature and will often have a nibble on anything that they find interesting!
  • After mating, the gestation period lasts about 5 months. Females give birth to between 2 and 4 offspring, called kids.

Conservation

Pygmy goats have not been properly assessed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). They are not considered to be endangered at this time.
